To stay is to bank the cards and points and see if the dealer beats it. To split players must have 2 of the same card in the starting hand and then effectively split this hand to make 2 separate ones. The bet is doubled and players can then play both of these now single card hands. Once the players stay on all their hands, the dealer then turns their face down card up and, usually following a set of rules for dealer’s play, either hits or stays.
